I COULD BE WITH ANYONE
I Could Be With Anyone is an EP released by Kevin Devine in support of his fifth album, Brother’s Blood, and his winter 2008 tour with Manchester Orchestra.
The title track is featured on Brother’s Blood, while the other 3 tracks are exclusive to the EP.
Both “She Stayed As Steam” and “What’s Keeping Us Young” were previously available to stream on Kevin’s MySpace page, however, the EP features a new version of “What’s Keeping Us Young”.
Lyrics:
“The Weather’s Wonderful”
i feel the fog float on and my heart wants what it wants
but my heart wants blood so i bare my fangs and i hunt
i see a girl at the corner
a ring through her lip
a purposeful dare in her eyes
so i zone you out
stalk over and say ‘hi’
i’m on the tree-lined road that encircles Berlin Zoo
I got my wolf hat on and I’m howling about you
I toss steak to a tiger, grain to a gull
And scraps to the woman I love
And when they all want more
I won’t ever have enough
At the sideshow tent the weather’s wonderful today
Above the water tank taunting couples on first dates
I hawkeye the boardwalk
I scan for your face
I wince as the platform’s released;
I come up for air and you wait in line for me.
“What’s Keeping Us Young”
Now you’re in the mirror
Sketched over me
In the curve of my smile
And the cut of my teeth
You gave me your mouth, Dad
And the heat in my blood
And the courage to carry it
I hope you gave me enough
I learn from my mother
Her heart is broken but wide
Despite what she’s been through
She fights to keep open
To peace in her life
See, she gave me her guts, Dad
And the red in my hair
And the songs spilling off my tongue
Leading me everywhere
A framed family portrait
Kids crouched in front
They laugh loose and easy
Faces open in love
That’s what we got, Dad
That’s what’s keeping us young
Fighting off gravity
Before it takes everyone
